Wayzata, MN

Located in the western section of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area, Wayzata is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful sights. Wayzata is part of Hennepin County, which is the most populous county in the state of Minnesota. Although Wayzata itself has a small population of around 4,000, the city’s economy is quickly growing. TCF Financial Corporation and Cargill, Inc. are both based in Wayzata.

The city gets its name from a Lakota Sioux phrase that means “North Shore.” Wayzata is located on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, a popular place for boating, sailing, and fishing. With seasonal lifeguards on duty, Wayzata Beach of Lake Minnetonka is a great place for children to go swimming. There are also several beautiful gardens near the area that visitors can explore. For an unforgettable experience, visitors can get on the Steamboat Minnehaha, a restored 1906 steamboat and take a tour of the scenic lake. There is also a museum on the boat featuring historical documents and artifacts meant to preserve Lake Minnetonka’s history.

Dakota Rail Regional Trail is another popular destination in Wayzata. This scenic 13.5-mile paved trail is perfect for hiking, biking, or walking dogs. The Big Woods Preserve is a gorgeous hardwood forest that is another great place to hike. The forest is full of beautiful wildflowers, as well as maple and basswood trees. Maple Tree Tapping Events are held at Big Woods, where observers will learn how to tap a maple tree and learn interesting facts about making maple syrup.
